Since its founding in 1985, David Dorfman Dance has performed extensively in the New York City/New Jersey/Connecticut area and throughout North and South America, Great Britain, and Europe. David Dorman and the company’s dancers and artistic collaborators have been honored with seven New York Dance and Performance (“Bessie”) Awards. The company is celebrated both for its range of repertory and its community-based projects. Two new company works, Lightbulb Theory and Impending Joy, premiered in March 2004 at The Duke on 42nd Street Theater in Manhattan. The company’s three community projects to date – Out of Season (The Athletes Project), Familiar Movements (The Family Project) and No Roles Barred – have been presented over 30 times in 18 states and two foreign countries. David Dorfman Dance, celebrating its 20th anniversary during the 2004-2005 season, is the resident dance company of the Algonquin Arts Center in Manasquan.
