About the School of Nimbus Dance Works:

The School of Nimbus Dance Works offers top-tier training in Ballet, Modern and Hip-Hop with exposure to other dance forms for children 2+, teens, and adults. Our school emphasizes small classes, excellent instruction, and opportunities for students to perform alongside Nimbus Dance Works company dancers, including the annual Jersey City Nutcracker production.  Classes are taught by company dancers who have extensive teaching experience in Ballet, Modern Dance and other techniques to a variety of age groups.  With need-based scholarships provided through grant support, the school draws students from across Jersey City to ensure access to quality dance education regardless of economic circumstances.  Our main focus is to give students the opportunity to explore creativity and movement while advancing their technique in Ballet and Modern, so that those who are interested in pursuing dance as a career receive the preparation they need.

But, our classes are also fun!  So, for those students who simply want to explore creative expression through dance, our classes provide a challenging, yet supportive environment!  Stay tuned to our calendar for master classes and other exciting additions to our curriculum.
The Junior Youth Ensemble (JYE) - ages 9-12

The Junior Youth Ensemble (JYE), under the direction of Nimbus company dancer Chloe Slade, is for aspiring dance students ages 9-12.  JYE explores increasingly challenging repertory, works intensively with professional choreographers, and develops tight bonds with a core group of motivated peers.
Participants can expect to make significant progress in dance technique and performance skills – and have a lot of fun! The JYE performs 4-6 times throughout the spring, including public performances and at the School of Nimbus Dance Works Spring Recital. Admission to the Junior Youth Ensemble is by discretion of Nimbus Dance Works staff.

JYE participants are required to take minimum 2 technique classes a week, including Ballet 3A (A Track) in addition to JYE rehearsals beginning February 2017.
Pre-Professional Program - ages 13-18

The School of Nimbus Dance Works offers a rigorous pre-professional program designed for advanced teenage students ages 13-18; under the direction of company dancers, Tracy Dunbar & Robert Lewis. Nimbus Pre-Professional students receive the training required for a possible career in the professional dance world, and for entrance to competitive college dance programs. The Pre-Professional Program consists of at least 6 ballet/modern dance technique classes a week. Students must audition for the Pre-Professional program and be at level III/IV in all technique classes.

Pre-Professional students also participate in Opportunity Knocks, a series of conversation-based seminars on time management, self-development, college prep and team-building.
Nimbus Youth Ensemble - ages 13-18

The School of Nimbus Dance Works offers an elite performance ensemble for top teens in the Jersey City and the greater New York City area. The Nimbus Youth Ensemble is comprised of top level students at The School of Nimbus Dance Works and is directed directed by company dancers, Tracy Dunbar & Robert Lewis. Students who have graduated from this ensemble have been accepted into top dance schools in the country. Entry to the NYE is by audition.

The Nimbus Youth Ensemble performs throughout the region at public events and performances, local schools and senior centers, Jersey City Nutcracker, and the Nimbus School Recital. Acceptance into NYE is by audition only and students must be members of the Pre-Professional Program to be a member of the Nimbus Youth Ensemble (NYE). Rehearsals for NYE are throughout the academic year."
