Works a Foot 2017

  • Memorial Auditorium 1 Normal Avenue Montclair, NJ, 07043 United States (map)

The first dance show of the season features vintage and contemporary works by guest artists and Montclair State dance faculty. To Have and To Hold, by Joanie Smith and Danial Shapiro, with music by Scott Kylian, is the highlight of the concert. Jennifer Dunning of The New York Times wrote, “There is no plot. But lives are spanned. Lovers meet and part. Death comes, first frighteningly, then as peaceful resolution.” Twelve Contra Dancesby Remy Charlip, a founding member of the Merce Cunningham Dance Company and two- time Obie winner, is a witty piece that explores music and spatial relationships with abstract, humorous movement. Choreography and restagings by Montclair State faculty Earl Mosley, Christian von Howard, Maxine Steinman, Elizabeth McPherson and Jessica DiMauro.
