With bold athleticism and dramatic nuance, Carolyn Dorfman Dance returns to the Bickford Theatre with contemporary dance that moves you to think, feel, laugh, and engage. The performance begins with "Dance/Stories", an enchanting interdisciplinary collaboration with incomparable storyteller Charlotte Blake Alston that interweaves choreography and the spoken word to create a moving tapestry that "bathes the senses and the soul." The program also features Dorfman's acclaimed "SEXTET", which explores the energy and rhythm of six dancers as they connect, divide, and regroup to jazz composer Horacee Arnold’s driving score, as well as "UNFOLDING", a new work by former principal dancer Ae-Soon Kim. In her work for five dancers, Kim and composers Greg Wall and Shai Barchar combine Korean Drumming with an electronic score to explore her roots on three continents: Asia, Europe, and America.
Don’t miss the Company’s multi-ethnic and stunning dancers, who tap their unique talents to present high-energy and technically demanding dance that unleashes the powerful storytelling and imagery of its visionary creator and guest choreographers.
