New Jersey Ballet launches its 58th season on November 12th with a performance at Mayo Performing Arts Center in Morristown. The centerpiece of the evening is a revival of the company’s feature length ballet, Carmen. Choreographed by the late company co-founder, George Tomal, this Carmen is intense and even a little edgy, with flashes of passion and foreboding. The remainder of the evening is devoted to Johan Renvall’s high voltage Tango, a unique blend of tango-dancing and classical ballet that the New York Times described as “...tantalizing...sultry...explosive,” and the splendid wedding scene from the classical comedy, Don Quixote.
